Each individual has an inner power to break the SPELLs they feel their lives are bound by. Peace Space SPELL-breaking involves accompanying the individual into the maze the SPELL has created, untangling it with the individual’s unique power within, and reconnecting them with their Guidance and Source. Peace Space modalities may be used to support this healing process.

About SPELLs
SPELLs are created to fulfill wishes deriving from a perception—from our experience of past, physical manifestations—that something is needed. Thus, SPELLs are wishes pursued, either consciously or unconsciously, by our intent. Emanating from the past, and created by the magic of our intent in the Now, SPELLs are woven from the limbo-land of Faerie, the Realm of “Ever-becoming”. SPELLs bridge the abyss between the perception of past need, or want, and the unmade future.

Those subscribing to current scientific materialism commonly think of SPELLs as ritualistic formulae—spoken, or written—that belong to the precinct of a magic that does not exist, but mediaeval scholar, Professor Richard Kieckhefer, has referred to SPELLs as “psychological magic designed to influence the human mind”. This puts SPELLs into the everyday category of human activity—one that is familiar to the ordinary modern person regardless of age, intelligence, or culture.

Spoken and written words were once regarded as god-given gifts with magic powers to heal or harm and the word “SPELL” referring to magic ritualistic formulae—spoken or written—is closely related to the word referring to the way we make up, or “SPELL”, the words of our language. Whatever language we speak, our words are, therefore, still ritualistic formulae comprising sacred sounds of great power, and the words we write are made up of their magic symbols. With both, we tell stories of immense power to “influence the human mind”—our own mind and the minds of others. Prior to the spoken and written word is the thought that sends these stories forth and, before that, is the intent or motive, of us, the sender. To be aware of what our language of thought and word (both spoken and written) is capable of doing, we have to enter the “morsels of our existence” and check the many layers of our motive. Does what we think, say, or write emanate from our soul’s compassionate intent? Why do we want to use these sounds and symbols? Do they service our desire for self-aggrandisement? Do we fear the silence? Do we intend to alter another’s energy field for our own purposes, or have we been asked to use these sounds and symbols specifically to heal—with no strings attached? Whatever formulae we use, we should always ensure we speak the highest language known to our soul—the One Language of Universal Being.

All SPELLs are embodied energy, primarily designed for good or ill. All SPELLs limit the human mind in its perception and reception of Limitless Reality. Even SPELLs for good—health and prosperity, love and fulfilment (e.g. “Long live the King…may the King live for ever!”)—are designed to ward off what is perceived as “evil” so that only half of Life’s gamut may be experienced. Thus, a SPELL is something designed to restrict the freedom of our human spirit to do the bidding of our divine Soul.

All stories, spoken or written (such as folk tales, news reports, over-the back-fence gossip), or inferred (with raised eyebrows, sidelong glances, half smiles, specific voice inflections, or with silent “promises”—such as sexual “come-ons”) are SPELLs designed to weave a certain picture of reality and “influence the human mind”. Our human lives can be said to be based upon SPELLs, or stories, which have either been handed down to us—by our families, education, culture, social groupings, karmic connections and past-life experiences—and interpreted, accepted and absorbed according to our unique energetic compositions. They give our lives a framework for interpreting our experiences and weaving these interpretations into our reality. The “good SPELLs” we live under are often referred to as “lucky streaks”, “good fortune”; the “bad SPELLs” become “a run of bad luck”. Whether we are “blessed by a good SPELL” or “bound up under a bad SPELL”, SPELLs cause us to exist, nonetheless, in a living death where we are neither quite dead nor quite alive, and being tied up in this UnderWorld realm prevents us from accepting the freshness of each momentary morsel of Limitless Life.

While it is necessary for our perceptions of reality to be so contained as we grow and develop in the sort of wisdom that will enable us to accept more and more of what Life offers us, it is also necessary for us to become increasingly aware that, “there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so”. No life is without its “good SPELLs” and its “bad SPELLs” and sometimes oscillating between the two, simultaneously, can cause our attempts at evaluation to plunge into a see-sawing madness that creates for us a living hell.

“Good” or “bad”, the SPELLs we live under—our obsessive hates, jealousies, envies and prejudices, our false comforts separating us from our soul’s purpose and preventing us from caring about the sufferings and injustices affecting others, our sense of superiority and simultaneous fear that we are inferior, our superstitious belief that we are always victims, or that we are always victors, and all those perceptions which we fervently cling to as the truth about reality—are, in fact, substitutes for the reality of Life and are like the Changelings left by Faeries in place of the human babies they steal away. These strongly binding SPELLs rob the life-blood from our souls and must be broken if we are to become aware of compassionately expanded realities and live accordingly.

Breaking SPELLs
It is important to recognise that while SPELLs may have originally been cast upon us by others (family, society, acculturation, etc.), it is we who have wittingly, or unwittingly, accepted them and incorporated them into our energy patterns. We, therefore, have been complicit in creating new SPELLs and so, when we become aware that their influence upon us limits our spiritual development, it becomes our responsibility to see that they are broken.

Old fairy tales are full of accounts concerning life lived under debilitating SPELLs. Invariably, the only way these SPELLs can be broken is through being motivated by selfless Love to travel the dark paths of the valley of the shadow of death. Because SPELLs are stories, the tangled web they have woven in our lives can often be too intricate a weave to unravel on our own and this is when the services of a SPELL-breaker can help. A SPELL-breaker is one who will not shy away from accompanying us down the dark and fearful pathways which the SPELL has gouged through our minds. The SPELL-breaker is one who helps us separate from the deathly and deadly tentacles of the SPELL so that we can rest in the stillness of resigned and ultimately accepting silence. The SPELL-breaker is also one who can help us towards recognising our soul’s divine illumination within the heart of the SPELL.

Casting SPELLs
While we live within the duality of physical existence it will be impossible to contain and make sense of our experiences without the SPELL of story. However, by being aware of our intent, clearly and frequently, it is possible to cast SPELLs the purpose of which emanates from the purity of our souls—SPELLs which do no harm.

The most common form of casting such SPELLs is to pray that someone or some situation be held in the divine embrace of Limitless and Unconditional Love. If the word “pray” causes some resistance, please remember that efficacious prayer relies far more upon the purity of our intent than upon a personal connection with specific notions of deity. While it has wisely been said that “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of” it has been as wisely said, “Pray as you can, not as you can’t”.
